25th May 2023 – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has announced its plans to launch a new syllabus for the Chartered Accountant (CA) examinations in July 2023. The eagerly awaited curriculum will encompass the CA Foundation, CA Intermediate, and CA Final levels. Aniket Talati, President of ICAI, announced during a recent press conference, emphasizing the institute's commitment to providing students with a globally relevant education.
The revised curriculum, currently awaiting approval from the Centre, has been meticulously designed to align with the National Education Policy 2020. This policy emphasizes the inclusion of multidisciplinary education and facilitates credit accumulation and transfer based on Multiple Credit Recognition Agreements (MCRAs) with educational institutions. Students will have the flexibility to earn credits and certifications by taking one or two exams.
Notably, the new CA curriculum places a strong emphasis on technology. Talati highlighted the institute's efforts in training registered members on disruptive technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and data science. Technology would also play a significant role in the revamped curriculum, ensuring that future CAs are well-prepared to navigate the digital landscape. Technological aspects will be integrated into all articles.
To expand opportunities for CA graduates, the ICAI has established agreements with seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and two Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) out of 111 higher education institutions. These agreements recognize the CA qualification for admission to Ph.D. programs. Furthermore, the ICAI aims to broaden the scope of business and accounting courses offered in schools.
The articleship tenure has been reduced from three to two years as part of the curriculum revision. Candidates pursuing the chartered accountant designation must complete the mandatory CA Articleship, a practical training course, after obtaining an academic degree.
The ICAI remains committed to ensuring a seamless transition for students and providing them with comprehensive study materials and guidance. Additional details and updates regarding the new curriculum will be available through the official ICAI website (www.icai.org).
